Police: Driver flees after striking, killing woman lying in road

PORT NORRIS - A local woman was lying in the roadway late Monday night when she was struck and killed by a vehicle that fled the scene, state police said.

Sandra Gross, 53, was pronounced dead around 10:30 p.m. Monday night after state police found her in the northbound lane of North Avenue.

Police said Gross had been laying there before being struck by an unidentified vehicle.

Branchburg sets forum to discuss affordable housing

Capt. Stephen Jones said alcohol consumption may have led to Gross laying in the roadway before she was struck.

Police are turning to the public for any information that may lead to finding the hit-and-run driver.
