VINELAND - The Boys & Girls Clubs of Vineland received support from The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey in partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs in New Jersey. The grant will fund the second year of the club's BEAM (Breathe Easier with Asthma Management) program.

In total, the foundation will provide $600,000 to Boys & Girls Clubs in New Jersey to continue the work of raising awareness about asthma and educating club members and their parents or caregivers about asthma and how to manage it. Across New Jersey, BEAM will benefit 2,500 children ages 5 to 18 years from 16 clubs in 12 counties.

“This grant will enable Boys & Girls Clubs of Vineland to continue our important work in nurturing healthy lifestyles,” said Chris Volker, chief professional officer of the club. “Asthma is one of the most common, recurring childhood illnesses; nearly 300,000 children in New Jersey have been diagnosed with asthma. By managing asthma symptoms, children can live a normal, healthy life.”

Because asthma attacks can be prevented and managed, the foundation believes it can make a positive impact through the BEAM program in reducing asthma’s burden by improving the quality of life for asthma sufferers and their families, and increasing awareness of the disease and its management.

“We are delighted to support Boys & Girls Clubs in New Jersey,” said Jonathan R. Pearson, executive director of the Horizon Foundation for New Jersey. “The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey works with grantees who share our commitment to improve our neighbors’ health, inform their health decisions and inspire them to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.”
