Woman sues police after she was arrested for staying silent

TRENTON – A woman who was arrested for refusing to answer questions during a traffic stop in New Jersey has sued the state police.

NJ.com reports that Rebecca Musarra, of Philadelphia, filed the federal civil rights suit after the Oct. 16 incident in Warren County.

She says in the suit that at least three troopers insisted after she was pulled over that refusing to answer questions was a criminal act.

State Police spokesman Capt. Stephen Jones says the department’s internal affairs office reviews any time misconduct is alleged. He says training or disciplinary measures are implemented when appropriate.

Musarra, an attorney from Philadelphia, remained silent after she was pulled over for suspected speeding. She was later cuffed and taken back to a police station.

She says a supervisor watched dashboard camera footage and let her go without charges.
