Each week the Mat Pack will ask area coaches about various questions about wrestling. This week, we check in with Buena’s George Maxwell.

Question: Should sectional finals be wrestled at a neutral location? Should state finals be wrestled all at the same venue?

Answer: (About sectional finals): No. I just think it gives the season a little more meaning with your schedule and what you did during the year to earn that. When you earn that right, I think it does give you that advantage. In wrestling, having your home scale and being at your site, making sure all your guys are there and on weight, (is an advantage), and then you’re going to get a little better draw at one school or the other rather than a neutral site.

(About states): I think it’s a really neat experience for the kids (having it all at one location). I’ve been at both. Back the first time Buena made the state finals against Jefferson, the No. 1 seed at the time was Kittatinny and we beat Kittatinny, and then we wrestled Jefferson, it was just so far. I don’t think you get the same draw. And all those different matches going on at the same time, it just brings that state tournament feel to it.
