MILLVILLE - A home on the 200 block of South 2nd Street was ravaged by a fire late Saturday night, according to officials.

Millville Fire Capt. John Wettstein told The Daily Journal Sunday that a man called emergency dispatch to report a fire to his two-story, single-family home around 11:31 p.m. Saturday.

He was the only person home at the time and was not injured in the blaze, Wettstein said.

When firefighters arrived on the scene they were met with heavy smoke, which turned into heavy flames as crews worked their way into the house.

"The fire started coming out of the windows and doors," Wettstein said. "We were met with a heavy fire condition. We worked our best to put the fire out."

Three hand lines, one ground monitor and two ladder pipes were utilized in fighting the fire, and crews cleared the scene around 4 a.m., Wettstein said.

An estimate of damage was not readily available, but Wettstein said, "It suffered heavy fire damage."

The roof to the house had caved in, he added.

No firefighters were harmed in the blaze, according to Wettstein.
