BRIDGETON – A 27-year-old Millville man has been indicted on charges of forcing a teenager and an adult male to work as prostitutes, according to Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae.

Court records show the Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit arrested David James Taibi on Dec. 9, 2015. Taibi, of the 100 block of North 3rd Street, was charged with promoting prostitution and placed in the county jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.

“It was reported to police that the accused, Taibi, was forcing two victims to engage in sexual acts in exchange for money,” Webb-McRae said this week. “Taibi would set up the encounters and collect the money. The two victims forced into prostitution were in previous dating relationships with Taibi.”

Webb-McRae told The Daily Journal the alleged incidents took place in Millville and Vineland. The indictment states the adult male was involved in prostitution between Feb. 1, 2014, and August 31, 2015. The younger male, 17, was involved between June 1, 2015 and Sept. 1, 2015.

On May 11, a grand jury issued a three-count indictment against Taibi.

The grand jury returned one charge of first-degree promoting prostitution and one charge of third-degree promoting prostitution in connection with the 17-year-old. The teenager is identified only by initials in the indictment.

Webb-McRae said the use of a minor elevates the offense to a first-degree charge.

Taibi also is charged with third-degree promoting prostitution charge in connection with the adult male. The adult is identified in the indictment, but The Daily Journal is withholding his name.
