Happy 100th birthday to Georgia Mae Robinson, who celebrated Feb. 12. She was born Feb. 12, 1916, in Crisfield, Md.

Georgia and her two brothers left Crisfield in 1927 to come to Maurice River in pursuit of work in the oyster industry. She found work with F.F. East Company. She moved to Port Norris in 1947, where she continued to work in the oyster industry. In 1958, she began her career at the Vineland Developmental Center and later was promoted to human services assistant and cottage training supervisor. She retired from the center in 1979.

Robinson has devoted her life to God and the work of the church. She believes her longevity is a gift from God. She has been a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church since 1947. She still attends the church, where she is the oldest member. As a member of the church, she has held many positions including chairperson of the United Methodist Women; she also was a member of the Chancel Choir, Mass Choir, Secret Pals and the Old Pageant.

One of her favorite songs is “If I Can Help Somebody As I Pass Along.” She often sang it as a duet with her husband, the late George Robinson.

Robinson lives in Millville with her son, Barry L. Ballard, and his wife, Sylvia
