MILLVILLE – New Jersey Motorsports Park’s Finish Line Pub was filled with snowmen following the park’s first Art Bar event in January. Forty attendees were treated to a night of art instruction, wine and a buffet put together by the park’s executive chef.

Lori Lewis, the park’s communications, media and human resources manager, was the instructor. She has a strong art background.

"I basically grew up with a paintbrush or drawing pencil in my hand,” said Lewis, whose love for art began at a very early age in her hometown of Newport. “Being a small community, there was not a lot for the youth to do, but one thing we did have were two local artists with studios that gave lessons to the local kids.”

Lewis said they knew we were onto something when, after only the first few days of setting up the event, they had almost reached their maximum capacity.

“We are able to accommodate a larger group than most since we have a large room and two other instructors that help out with instruction," she said. "We make our projects easy for the students to follow and even create an illustrated guide to give them step-by-step instructions on the process.”

Job fair: Millville motorsports park is hiring!

An Art Bar will be held each month this year with a unique project planned for each class. The next Art Bar will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 24 in the park’s pub at 8000 Dividing Creek Road. At this class, students will create a 16-by-18-inch rustic wooden sign with a sunflower welcoming spring. The students will have the option of stenciling their initial drawing onto the sign.

The fee is $30 for the class and two glasses of wine. A buffet is available for $5. Reservations are required.
