Police: Drug dealer from Camden assaulted officer

ATLANTIC CITY – A Camden man was arrested on charges that he assaulted a police officer who tried to stop him after a drug deal in Atlantic City.

Thomas Wallace, 41, had a backpack with 609 bags of heroin, 24 grams of cocaine, and marijuana when detectives arrested him, police said.

Atlantic City police said two detectives saw Wallace and another man engage in a narcotics sale about 6:15 a.m. Saturday outside an Atlantic Avenue convenience store.

As police approached, Wallace went into the store and one of the detectives followed him inside. Wallace then left the store, pushing one of the detectives to the pavement as he fled, police said.

Police chased Wallace and arrested him the School House Apartments. He was held in Atlantic County Jail on charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, obstruction of justice, resisting arrest, drug possession, and drug possession with intent to distribute.
